Big Science for Little Kids: Science Through Play at the FAT USB

On Wednesday, June 11, 2025, the Faculty of Agriculture and Technology at the University of South Bohemia hosted an educational event titled Big Science for Little Kids, organized with the support of the Union of Czech Mathematicians and Physicists (JČMF). Thirty pupils from the 3rd and 4th grades of ScioSchool in České Budějovice took part in the event, where they had the opportunity to explore the world of science in an interactive and fun way.
The program began with a visit to the faculty's Experimental Facility, where the children learned about the principles of modern agriculture and how to care for animals and soil. This was followed by a presentation from the Department of Data Science and Computing Systems, which introduced the children to an in-house artificial intelligence capable of detecting speech, answering questions, generating images, and even telling stories based on chosen themes.
A highlight of the day was a Tower of Hanoi puzzle-solving competition, with the rules explained by the aforementioned AI. The young explorers also took home black-and-white prints of AI-generated images, which they could color in using their own imagination.
The event was not only playful and engaging, but above all inspiring—it showed the children that science is not just about learning, but also about fun, creativity, and discovery.
